Hi,
First time poster, long time lurker from Down Under! I'll get right to it. It seems the spring to lift the bonnet when pulling the cable isn't strong enough when the spare is on the bonnet. Does anyone sell a stronger spring? Also, the rubber that the spare sits on are a bit worse for wear. Again, does anybody know who sells replacements? EDIT: Always happens - search for ages with no luck, post on a forum, then search again and it appears!! Spare wheel bonnet mounting rubber http://www.paddockspares.com/mrc4619-mounting.html |

I believe this is the one you are after.
I think the spring is a slightly thicker diameter and a bit more springy. http://www.lrseries.com/shop/product/listi...amp;page=1 I suffer the same issue but open it from the front. Also second what Brendan says, those scissor props are lethal Hope that helps Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter |

Thanks - that one does look stronger. Might be worth a go.
Here in OZ, our army vehicles (aka Perentie) had strengthened scissor bonnet stays, which I've acquired. I agree my old vehicle's single piece was more trustworthy, but at least I don;t have the stock item which I wouldn't trust at all with a spare on the bonnet! |

I have a piece of metal about an inch and a half in length which I wedge under the bonnet release handle to open mine, no need for another person then.
You can also remove the bonnet release system altogether, the weight of the wheel is more than sufficient to hold the bonnet down while driving. I have the folding bonnet stay and I must admit it does look sketchy but it's never failed in the many times my bonnets been up. 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon 1998 Land Rover Defender 110 County Station Wagon ~ Sold 1995 Land Rover Defender 110 V8 Station Wagon ~ Sold 1985 Land Rover 110 ex mod project Tithonus ~ Sold |
