Bought a set of led headlights to stick on the svx ,, plug and play but the svx has a separate sidelight connector and the sidelight is within the original light unit , when I connect the LEDs with the new wiring harness to the svx the sidelight connector isn't in use and when I put the sidelights on I'm getting what I think is sidelights and headlights , same as when I switch to headlights , same set up , main beam works fine . Is there a way of just getting the sidelights , headlights to work as they should as I'm sure this won't pass an mot as is ,, help please

Jim, what type LED headlight did you buy? With or without sidelight function?
If with sidelight function, there should be a normal H4 connector for the low/high beam, same as on the standard SVX Wipac cristal headlamp, so plug 'n play, and there should be a separate wire and connector on your new LED headlamp to connect to the sidelight feed, again the same as with the SVX Wipacs. I once had Speaker EVO headlamps in my SVX, the version with the sidelight function, and that connected as above. Or did you possibly buy a LED headlight without sidelight function? Which no good for a SVX front. Eric You never actually own a Defender. I know this sounds like a long shot but with the SVX being the only Defender with a different headlight/sidelight set up is the loom bespoke or do they use the "normal" loom and instead of plugging it straight to the lights, plug an extension in to adapt to the SVX configuration. In other words if you look back from the headlights following the loom they might be plugged into the "normal" Defender set up, unplug that and use that.

Probably not, if there is no separate wire for the sidelights coming from the rear of the lamp, it must mean that it does not have the sidelight function. The H4 connector has nothing to do with sidelights function, only low/high beam. Which brand did you buy actually? I believe that Trucklites all have the sidelight function, but with Speaker and Nolden you have versions with and without. Eric You never actually own a Defender. Trucklites surely should work, as said I believe that those all have the integrated sidelight function, so a H4 connector plus another connector for the sidelights specifically hanging from the back, but check anyway if you decide to buy.
Hope you find a taker with a standard front Defender for that set of LED headlamps without sidelight function you seem to have there now. Eric You never actually own a Defender. Jim, if you opt for the TruckLites, I think these here below are what you need. TruckLite GEN2 with the integrated sidelight, so with the H4 connector, plus the two other wires, black and white, for the sidelights.
Eric Here is a English language presentation of a Aussie distributor which confirms they have the park lights function. Could not easily find any English language presentation here in Europe, although I know Nakatanenga do distribute the same. http://www.narva.com.au/pressreleases/pres...d-headlamp Now, but this is probably dreaming, how nice would it be if finally these very same TruckLites with the heated lenses would become available for the EU market. Not sure why, but believe they only come with DOT approval, which is ok for the USA, but not Europe. I think to remember that Brendan on here once explained that the chance of those getting EU approval are very slim. You never actually own a Defender. Did someone call?
Jim please have a read here We have limited stock of the Generation 2 Truck Lites. These are not commonly available in RHD/UK specification. Generation 1 Truck-Lites typically sell for about £425 in the UK. Edited to add. Main light has the standard H4 connector. Side/position light requires an extra wiring harness. Brendan |

Thanks for the reply Brendan ,, regarding the extra wiring harness for the sidelights on the svx, can I not splice my sidelight wires to the new truck lite wires ??

Hi Jim, yes you are correct. I was thinking of the non SVX version when I added the comment about the wiring loom. Apologies about me causing confusion.
