Yes, the relay is the flasher relay for the indicators. You have to swap the original relay with the RDX one. On the RDX relay there is a little control knob to adjust so that the trailer light flashes only once (requirement).
Don't know where the original relay in your Defender lives, as you haven't indicated which model. In my 300Tdi the relay sits behind the fuse panel in front of the gearsticks. Just move the indicator stalk and listen and locate the clicking sound. Noticed now,
If I fit the normal relay as above the trailer light will flash when the indicators are on irrespective if I'm towing or not... However with this relay apparently it does not. I think I would rather use this then? is only £1.50 more? Is this correct for people who have fitted the LED lights http://www.mudstuff.co.uk/products/electri...cator.html |

As I said before:
The trailer light flashes only once with no trailer connected. It flashes constantly when a trailer is connected. This is normal as it should be. If you fit LED indicators and do not use the adjustable flasher relay from RDX, the trailer light wil flash constantly also if no trailer is connected. aka, there is no need for the pictured other relay if you use the RDX relay that came with the kit. ^^^^ Exactly correct, IIRC its the second relay over from the top left. (Make sure you check)
If you put hazards on and feel it you'll know the exact one, turn the hazards off and replace it. Then with the engine running adjust the relay knob on the top of it so that the trailer light goes out when indicating. The trailer light should only be on with hazard lights or with trailer attached. You need the engine running as alternator voltage is around 14.2v approx and ignition on only it'll be 12.2v approx. So as you will be indicating witch engine running at that voltage it improves the accuracy as you've set it. It's quite straight forward. |
