To be fair when the Defender first came out I hated it, having been used to a series two and then three with its distinctive front and basic interior. I thought the front styling of the Defender was horrible and its one piece windscreen and wind down door windows. After a few years though I got used to the changes and bought one.
I am sure, for me anyways, that when and if the new Defender comes to market I will probably because of the change hate it, then two or three years down the line I will probably own one. Vehicles change over time, this will always happen, the series went through some changes until the defender came out with its fancy coil springs, a heater that worked, an extended load area etc. I will wait to see what the new one looks like and drives like before I make my assessment. I do however hope it keeps a lot of its current styling ques. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

I'm hoping it will be a natural replacement for my D4...if it is, I'll be swapping that for it.
I will still keep a Defender as long as I can. Cheers Simon |

A smaller version of the D4 with more defender like character would suit me.
However, no doubt it'll be around D4 price range, much higher than the Defender pricing was and this out of my price range however much if I'd like it. Most likely the same for many others too. |

I'd say the chances of me buying any new car again is around nil. The chance of me buying any new Landrover is also probably about nil. I highly doubt the new Defender will be marketed towards people like me and that is fine, I am content that JLR have cut themselves off from their heritage and moved in another direction, so be it. I and many other like me will keep that heritage alive. I won't ever sell my 110, but when it becomes too old for regular use (not that it goes out every day, it is a weekend vehicle really now) I suspect we will just get a decent saloon car and leave it at that. Whilst I may treat myself to some more Land Rovers in the future they will almost certainly be leaf-sprung, and who knows I may even get sidetracked if I find a UAZ or a nice early beetle (which would please the Mrs no end, she keeps asking me to buy her a Schwimwagen!) 2011 110 USW

My current thinking: If one waves, I'll wave back, but I would not initiate a wave to a newer model.
But then there's every chance it's awesome and I'm just jealous rattling around in my ancient tin shed. |

Aye but the Disco, RaRo and many other cars on the road are "awesome", but I still wouldn't want to drive one! The Defender just has something no other car does, and no design studio can just paint it in somehow...abstract I know but I am sure most people will understand what I am on about. 2011 110 USW

I'd happily drive one, but I wouldn't want to own one. Most cars out there I'd lease over buying, then when all the complicated bits go wrong it's not my problem. |

Lay off the Felton Rouge Pinot would be my advice.
'Shun' is a very strong verb...."To persistently avoid, ignore, or reject (someone or something) through antipathy or caution:" With the amount of people on the forum that rushed out to place a speculative deposit on the DC100 when it was revealed as a potential replacement I seriously doubt that your choice of verb is the correct one? http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic12525....00+deposit With all the leaks, squeaks, chocolate gearboxes and transmission woes I seriously think that any replacement will be hopefully better made with equal capability? The demand will be as great for a new one as there was at the demise of the old? Dinosaurs are extinct, (the Defender as it was, was a dinosaur, albeit a very capable one as a workhorse) embrace change with hope and anticipation! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

It probably won't be called a 'Defender' so it'll qualify for its own forum.

Good point. Also I feel that any new replacement Defender will perhaps in essence be aimed at a Different market, a market that expects comfort packed with the latest car technology and a leak free vehicle. In the end though price and vehicle design will dictate whether the car will sell in any volume.
