As above.
I use Nik Wax wash and the the waterproofing stuff on my out door gear and motorbike kit. It's really good stuff!! 8 hrs in the rain yesterday in my bike and no wet patches! Strong people are harder to kill and generally more useful! |

What Material is your jacket and trousers made from?
The typical 'hardshell' fabrics which include but not exclusively such brands as Gore tex, Isotex, eVent, Triplepoint ceramic and Aqua dry. These fabrics use a partially permable membrane layer which allows water vapour out but the pores are small enough to prevent liquid water in. If you have a clothing item that over time you now find leaks and is made of these fabrics it isn't a simple case of a reproof, you have another reason how water is getting in. It could be a geninue hole in the fabric or overtime the tape on the seams has got brittle and now water gets through the stiching holes. The common misconception is that when the DWR coating fades and water stops beading off the fabric that it is not waterproof or lost it's waterproofness (if that's the word). It hasn' the fabric being a membrane still holds it's waterproof properties but the fabric has wetted out and all this does is compromise the ability to transmit the water vapour. There is the softshell fabrics which whilst don't have a true waterproof membrane come as a 'shower proof' where TBH rely on the DWR coating to shed water before it soaks in. Then there is the Ventile and Nikwax family of which Paramo is the most known brand. What they do is use a material which simply transports water and as such used to move water vapour and also larger water drops to the outer fabric keeping you dry, I won't get too techinical. Whilst paramo isn't strictly waterproof as if you kneel down or sit in a puddle you will get wet but it's active water movement and decent DWR coating means during even truely foul weather you will stay dry. Anyway i digress simply if you have a membrane fabric which has now let water in a simple reproof won't properly cure it, the renewed DWR might stop the ingress for a time but the problem will still be there. Inspect the clothing closely say in the sink and you might find a seam that needs repair or something like a hole caused by a thorn. |

Air dry or tumble dry on a low setting if care label allows.

The material in question is the Hi Vis coat type such as this type http://www.screwfix.com/p/site-hi-vis-ligh...hest/33199 and also ex railway HiVis overalls probably not originally waterproof but do seem to have the ability, or at least some. 1999 Defender TD5 110

I use Grangers products on all my shooting gear when required. Much better than Nikwax. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

A few weeks ago, Tesco were doing a pack of Tech Wash and TX.Direct Wash-In (2x 1ltr bottles) for £15 and they also had a 2 -4-1 deal on, so basically 4ltrs of wash n wax for £15. Amazing value. Cheers Simon |
