It just means you have open differentials in both axles - like every other standard Defender.
You'd know if you had a broken half shaft as you would have no or very limited drive without the centre diff lock in. |

Curious to know how/why you ended up doing this particular test?

car not running diff lock in and hand brake on , jack 1 wheel at a time, you should not be able to turn the jacked wheel , if 1 will turn something is wrong half shaft, drive flange or diff. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

If you have been driving with a snapped shaft it would not normally drive if the diff lock was off, I have had to recover various wagons with snapped shafts, each one made hurendious grinding noises with a lack of drive. Drivers complaining the wagons F and it won't drive, I jump in and drive it forward, the look of confusion on their faces . 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

No, a waste of time! As noted above, if you have broken halfshaft you'll have no drive unless you lock the diff. If you do have no drive and want to check which axle has the broken shaft, get a helper to see which propshaft turns as you try to drive off with diff unlocked and foot hard on the brakes. The propshaft which is turning is the end with the problem. |
