Hi all,
After my trip to Iceland i experienced that the steering of my Defender really did not like that holiday as much as I did It has the 'wobble of death' at speed and when doing +/- 30km in a traffic jam I feel the car wobbling slowly from left to right. Also, it feels very unsecure at speed especially when towing a trailer. I tried to fix a lot of things: - New bearing on one of the wheels, it got loose because the locking nut apparently never had been locked - Replaced the panhard rod bushes - Got new wheels and tyres (i didn't buy them to fix my problem but at least it locks out one of the possible causes) - Checked, replaced and adjusted the swivel bearings on the swivel where the wheel bearing was loose (the swivel was also very loose) - Checked all joints between steering rod etc. the are okay - Replaced the front shock absober bushes What i did notice is that the steering shaft has some play on the UJ's so I'll replace that in a short while. Although I can feel this when steering, it couldn't rectify my car wobbling when going slow on tarmac. What I would like to ask your help for: - Do you know any other possible causes? - Is it possible to adjust the steering box on a Puma 2.4 Defender? It also has a lot more than normal play (with engine running and the wheels straight) Thanks for thinking along! Cheers Paul |
