Folding side step caught on tree

Hi,

I caught the passenger side folding side step on a tree stump as I drove past and bent it out of shape. It made a huge noise, I thought I'd ripped half the car off.

Standing/ jumping on the step has sort of got it bent back into shape. I guess it's just accounting for the extra width of the step while unfolded and the lost clearance due to the mounts and avoiding stuff.

My real question is could this have caused much damage to the Defender? the metal sill the step is bolted to looks a little bent now when having a look under the car. Is it worth replacing/ hammering the step back into shape or just taking them off completely? I wouldn't have a problem jumping in without them, but some passengers would.

The step now doesn't fold up and instead of being parallel to the body of the car is now about 15 degrees off.

Appreciate your advice/ what people would recommend! Thanks.

Get rid and buy some rock and tree sliders. The steps rot out eventually anyway.

The side steps can do damage to your door when alnding on hard ground. Roel

The foldy steps are a menace. My Mrs' favourite trick was to snap them off in the muck and stab the diesel tank with the remnants on the 300 tdi we had .....

Kids use our rear step to get in the back,

So not all bad having them

Hi YOLO, 305 X 70 X 16 No spacers, fouling or adjustments needed due to the ET0 offset of the wheels which are 8" wide.
