Head on collision
Accident in Flanders today. A small car for unknown reason entered the oncoming traffic lane and had a head on collision with a Land Rover. Land Rover driver lightly injured, but the small car driver had to be cut out and is in serious condition. Hope he recuperates in full.
Wonder if the Defender chassis got bent, making this accident two write offs for the insurance companies.
Eric

You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Front axle has moved back a good distance, I would say there will defiantly be chassis damage. If you are clamming off of someone else's insurance I don't think the company can write off your car as easily especially when the parts for repair are easily obtained and would probably cost less than the overall value of the wagon. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Definitely a bent chassis, axle pushed back, radius rod brackets bent, possibly the transfer box will have split. Sad end to a Defender.

As long as everyone ok, a car no matter what is just a car.

What speed zone was this, the sudden stop on the Defender does look to be reasonable with the full rack bending forward?

Both front doors are kicked up at the back too, suggesting that the bulkhead's bent

This is also a good advert for securing your loads on your roofrack, judging by the damage there if those pipes were in anyway loose then they would have come at you like a rocket.

Sadly the Defender looks to be a total loss but it's just metal at the end of the day. Hopefully all occupants of both vehicles make a full recovery.

Ouch...but can't chassis be replaced instead of just scrapping the poor landy?

Yes, it could, but to an insurance company it will be uneconomical to do that. It might be worth the owner buying the vehicle back and rebuilding it himself, but the cost for new parts and dealer or bodyshop rates for labour will exceed the residual value of the Defender. Big Cry
