Hello All
THULE Van Lock Has anyone had any experience of this Lock... I spotted this set up at the ACE Cafe Meeting and wanted to look into it, looks neat enough, but is it any good... View below looks to also show a missing rear lock mechanism at the door handle so the Thule maybe is the only thing locking this rear door. Good... Bad... or Alternative approaches would be of interest... Click image to enlarge https://www.thule.com/en-gb/gb/motorhome-c...k-_-309832 Thanks SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

so how does this work? looking at the fitting instructions it seems it should only be fitted to sliding doors or doors with a lap (i.e rear doors).
I want this type of lock for the side doors on my 110 (as the main locks are well - pathetic! |

Rear or Sliding...
Click image to enlarge I would say there was possibly room for this to be installed on the side doors of a Defender 90 and the rear side doors of a 110 but not the front side doors of a 110 due to the 'limiting' width of the B pillar. THULE unit is 58mm high and there is 'roughly 52 - 55mm of flat area and around 60mm from 'main body radius' to 'lower body side rail' so some 'spacer' would possibly be required. Click image to enlarge With the THULE unit measuring... The instructions show, what looks like self tapping screws... these I would replace with nuts and bolts or rivnuts...aiming to lose the inside fasteners behind the inner panels (door cards) or within the inner door skin cavity... to an extent, the 'knife & fork' engineering on a Defender means some visible fasteners are OK. The Blue Defender above looks to have managed it...so maybe worth it at the possibly more 'vulnerable' end. Die cast Al block...so don't know what attack time this is likely to withstand...probably more of a put off deterrent / slow down rather than genuinely keep out.
