Found a manual that suggests having to remove everything round gear lever to expose top of gearbox. Seems to be implied that there's a plug/socket I can disconnect just to check its not the switch. Anyone know whether I can get at it from below? Fault identified !! It was the reversing light switch that was blowing the fuse you mentioned. Just for reference lying under the 110 with head pointing up to front of car, on the RHS yiu can just see a plug and socket with two wires coming out of it and disappearing somewhere upwards. Those wires go to the reversing light switch. Unplugging the connector and the fuse doesn't blow, the brake lights work, the battery symbol on the dashboard is there and goes out when you start the car and the battery has ~14.5 volts across it And yes you do have to remove transmission tunnel to change the switch, can;t even see it from down below!
