Smokey TD5
Hi All,

I've said in various posts for a while about how heavy my TD5 breathed!

Finally did a video of the smoke I get through the block.

This is after a good run so nice and warm. Doesn't overly effect the running and she's plenty pokey enough.

Engine is running Pete's (BAS) VNT, IC, MAF and Boost Adjust modules and one of his strongest remaps. All purchased at the same time and fitted at once.

First few months didn't seem to bring much up, but last 3-4 I've noticed it more and it's niggling. Mainly because it's chucking a fair bit of oil through the rocker cover which it initially didn't do for a couple months (that clear tube running off the rocker was clear for a good 3-4 months, then I noticed it getting oily).

Let see if this video works ...

Also a few pics of the smoke out the exhaust. I thought it was white as it looks as such through the mirrors, but after plonking a GoPro on the back, it looks like black which isn't to worrying. Though I never noticed it much before, but I have recently lost the iForWilliams back cover, so can see it all now!

I'm a bit confused Taazz, is that exhaust gas venting from the cylinder head?

It's blow-by. Often have a small amount on Diesels due to higher compression. Also you get more with high mile'ers or engines with a heavy use history resulting in worn rings (also perhaps to much idling on a diesel causing glazing etc).

Just wondering if mine's a tad excessive?

Can also be caused by low compression in 1 or more cylinders. TD5's have a 'small' history of bent con rods, so just wonder whether this might be a concern to.

Just wondering if the smoke is excessive mainly!

104,000 miles.

Hey taaz
Wondered if you had any joy with this? My td5 is exhibiting similar symptoms - just had new cyl head cos I had a crack, and my guy said the truck had deffo had a remap in its past cos it pulls like a train. So I was looking at a Provent like you have as I can't stop the oil leaking out of the breather - but now I got this smoke on change up, so thinking maybe the combination of cracked head (diesel in the oil) and the remap - higher compression in the crankcase etc might have 'interfered' with the turbo seals. Not sure sure which way to jump. Cheers Disco 300TDi XS - Gone
