The felt/rubber channels are available as parts and easily changeable. It will require the window mechanisms and glass removing. It is a simple but fiddly task. The first door will take a lot longer than the second as you learn!
The channels are held in by self tapping screws through the channel. They will be corroded and need replacing. They may need drilling out. They need to be countersunk screws so as not to catch on the glass. There will be some spacer bits between the channel and the door. These may be corroded. Suggest you also make sure you have spare plastic bits that connect the glass to the winder mechanism as these often break or come off. These need a strong glue to refit. This page from the parts manual might help. Click image to enlarge |

Great thanks for the insights, few questions just so I am clear:
The felt/rubber channels are available as parts and easily changeable. Still getting me head around ordering parts /names. Theses are referred to as "runners" can can be replaced (self tapping screws) and the felt rubber will also be replaced. (I don't see runners on the parts list or the felt rubber) is there a part ref for the felt/rubber? Suggest you also make sure you have spare plastic bits that connect the glass to the winder mechanism as these often break or come off. These need a strong glue to refit. Bits refer to Glazing rubber? Assuming 'runners; cannot be replaced - I am guessing these can be straightened (best practice?) |

OK - got it
i thought the runners were broken in 2 parts but i now see they travel up the entire window,on ordr i guess these come with felt rubber inserts? the channels - simply act as spacers to position the runners - correct? |

I will try and clarify a bit more
Items 4,5,6 are the rubber/felt channels that the glass runs in. They look like this: Click image to enlarge Unfortunately the diagram only shows up to 1994. After 1994 they changed item 2 to the two plastic brackets I am referring to (Part number STC4787). They look like this: |

The plastic bits glue to the glass and fasten to the key holes on the winder mechanism - see this photo.
If you wind you window down while you have the door trim off it you will see. |
