Has anyone used this stuff? Given how hot Defs get, maybe something to think about?

That looks pretty effective at reflecting heat. The million dollar question though, What's it cost? 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone

Doesn't look cheap. A one gallon tub is approx £60, plus a little more for the applicator if required. Their website says a 110SW would need two gallons. So a couple of hundred quid all in. Given how effective it is, I'd say it's worth it. Monsieur Le Grenadier

There was a trader at Billing a few years ago promoting this coating to Landy restorers. He had a demo Landy with the bulkhead and underside bonnet treated.

The most impressive aspect was actually the noise reduction. It may cost a few quid, but you would save money by having to use less sound proofing materials.

I was very tempted, but a little short on cash at the time of my rebuild to be able to justify the expense to the boss Laughing Fixing Land Rovers for over 25 years..........and making excuses to the wife for almost as long Smile

I suppose the only question, is how supple it is given how much Defs flex. Will contact them today... Monsieur Le Grenadier

Interesting. Did he say/show how easy it was to apply? It'll be a DIY. I'd be looking at it more from the POV of heat retention/loss. I just want the lid of the DC to be as insulated and warm as possible, given the winter temps here. My old 110 was cold throughout the winter season, albeit entirely un-treated. Hopefully the Insulator 6 will do the job! Monsieur Le Grenadier

The chap explained he was looking at promoting it to restorers as for best results you need to have the Landy stripped back.

Application looks to be quite straight forward and the same as products like Raptor/load liners. So plenty of masking off to avoid over spray.

according to US hot rod forums it is little more than home acrylic paint mixed with micro ballons, the heat one being 80% micro to paint. the sound one being 20% micro to paint.

Begs the question whether something like this would be just as effective, but cheaper and easier to apply?

The glass micro ballons are the secret, in the 80% mix they absorb the heat as they are hollow. in the 20% mix the paint has the elastic properties to absorb the sound waves. the paint is just the carrier for the micro ballons. Thats why it cleans up with water and soap as the paint is now water based.

Have a read on US hot rod forums there is loads of information about it.
