Odd brake bleed behaviour ? air in master?
Gidday,

Bleeding my (non ABS puma) brakes after installing new pistons, seals and pads on the front calipers.

Didn't split them, new bleed valves, unions appear fine, gave each caliper a good prime with fluid before installation too.

Puma WSM manual states no order in bleeding but I went with front left (furthest from master), front right, rear left, rear right.

Front left just keeps giving bubbles over and over at the beginning of each pedal stroke. Got less quantity over time but it's been 2L now just on this one caliper and it's still squirting bubbles at the top of each stroke.

I got experimental and checked the other 4 calipers, which each gave a bubble or 5 then went nice and clear/fluid only... Went back to front left and again bubbles at the top of the stroke, over and over...

Like they're being introduced somewhere? I don't see any leaks.

It's drivable, but unsafe at anything above 'not-annoyingly slow' Shocked - too mushy in the pedal.

I didn't clamp it when I removed the caliper but chucked a bleed valve on the female end of the flexi, took a while to get on though and the reservoir got pretty dang low...

Is it air up around the master (?) and maybe a reverse bleed is in order?

Is it as simple as it was reverse bleeding the clutch or is there something weird in the brake servo that makes it not a good idea?

I'm aware there are specific tools to get this stuff done, but I've successfully bled brakes before without them, aaaand I don't have em on hand right now... Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

Alright, so I tried reverse bleeding - fluid just poured out the nipple threads...

So I tried suction bleeding using a large syringe - air just flowed around the nipple threads...

Hrrrm Shocked Neutral

Soooo I put in one of the old nipples again (I had replaced them all with new) and went back to standard bleed - lo and behold - it worked.

5 pumps later clean and clear and a few more for good measure.

It was a genuine nipple too Rolling Eyes Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...
