TD5 Rear Damper Cups
Hi All,

Long time lurker, but now i need some help...

My rear damper lower bushes have failed on my 04 TD5, unfortunate i didn't notice until they started to knock at low speed and as such it seems to have damaged the axle cup's.. to the point where one side has 50% of the cup missing as it appears they are only spot welded on.. i assume the washer and cup have come into contact and the cup lost.

I don't seem to be able to find anywhere that sell's new cups that i could spot weld back onto the axle?

I know the older defender's didn't have cup's and that some aftermarket dampers require them to be removed.. can anyone point me in the direction of some dampers that are for a standard ride height and for a TD5 with rear fuel tank that also come with bushes that require the cup's be removed. I can then totally remove the cup's and life can go on... Mr. Green or somewhere i can get new cups to repair the axle.

P.s i like the sounds of the Koni's do these require the cups are removed?

Thanks,

Tom

I think most aftermarket shocks require the cup to be removed. I've just put new shocks on and they wouldn't fit unless the cups came off, easy job with a small bolster and big hammer Thumbs Up

If in doubt a quick e-mail to the supplier of your choice will confirm.

Hi Pinky,

What shocks did you go for?

Thanks,

Tom

I put the terrafirma 4 way adjustable ones on. Some days I'm loaded to the max others have nothing on board so nice to be able to adjust them at the turn of a knob. Don't know how long they will last but i'm happy with them so far.
