1999 Defender 110 Td5 SW Caledonian Blue

Painting underside of the tub

While Dinitroling the chassis I noticed the tub needs some treatment.

So options;
Dinitrol - same as chassis
Hycote Bed liner

other? 1999 Defender TD5 110

underneath? dinitrol all the way. painting will be a ball ache if you dont remove the whole tub.

Maybe underneath was a bit OTT...More like the bits you can see under the wheel arches. An element of sound deadening would be good. 1999 Defender TD5 110

ah ok. in that case id dinitrol it with rust proofer (447?) and then use the dinitrol stone chip on top for sound deadening. did this on mine and it worked well and lasted

What ever you do it will seal the rear tub from underneath. Bearing in mind water can enter in to the vehicle e.g. Footwells, door seals, actual floor panels not sealed properly etc you will be trapping moisture Inbetween the underside and what ever you have coated it in... Not good, it,s like blocking the holes in a sieve

Also if the underside coating is ever compromised it will again trap moisture which is far worse than not having underseal at all. There is a good argument for keeping the ali panels untreated but kept clean with an occasional jet wash depending on use...

EDIT just read your second post about rear wheel arches, if no rot then light spray of cavity wax 3125 then Stone Chip Protect Super 447. Get the cavity wax into the cut out sections to help against water ingress... And do the tubs supports also

I have some 3125 or the Rejel equivalent of. No 447 though but can order some of that. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Did some work on the 110 at the weekend got one side done.
Degreased, left for a while and did other jobs.

Sprayed cavity wax around the area where the underside tub supports are (the T shaped uprights) to seal the gap and left to dry. Did the exposed ally as well. Once dry sprayed over with Dinitrol, Looks better now but another coat won't go amiss. 1999 Defender TD5 110
