I just replaced my front pads for my 2010 Landrover 110 TDCI.
I used the ferodo FDB871 aftermarket because the repair manual specifies "Ferodo 3440 non asbestos" as the original pad material" Part no. from Landrover parts catalogue is SFP000260 When you get them you will find that they have a bevel on one side of the pad. This bevel (chamfer) is placed facing the leading edge of the disc which means facing the bottom of the caliper on our models. As you apply the brakes the wheel is turning forward this is the leading part of contact of the pad to the discs. When we removed the originals they have a steel shim or backing plate that is glued to them. We peeled them off and re glued them using dabs of silicon gasket sealant and refitted them. So you dont need all the pins etc but you have to be a little inventive. We reused all the pins springs and split pins. (Manual says to use new split pins) Original Pads have lasted over 70000 kms. and still have more than I thought left on them. I use genuine pads.
From the factory there are also two lengths of wire that I guess help to prevent any noise from the pads - if you are removing original pads you will know what I mean. I also put the pins in so that if they come loose they don't get caught in the rim and brake the holes in the caliper - i.e. fitted from the engine side of the caliper. I also put silicone on the split pin and surrounding caliper so it does not vibrate and wear its self away. 1995 300tdi Defender 90 P/UP 2011 Puma Defender 130 D/C 2000 300tdi Defender 110 P/UP 2015 Discovery 4 SDV6 HSE |
