Well the tub is off finally, got to love corroded bolts
Had to grind off two of the torx bolts that attach the rear tub supports to the cross member god only know what they were made of but I thought my grinding disc was blunt The seat belt clip attaching parts were a pig also, especially the two outer bolts underneath that pass through to the chassis connection, still a combination of 20" on the right and 12"on the left extension bar and a lot of crud falling in my face got them off in the end. So heres even more pics of a chassis for the forum Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Things I wish i'd thought about...... Jet washing the underside before getting it into the Barn, as its so much more fun on the floor under the truck when years of crud is falling in your face On the upside, the chassis and tub look pretty good in the flesh, dirty and some surface corrosion on the chassis and some of the bolt through areas of the tub but nothing dire and no holes that I noticed, clear idea tomorrow when I get all the crud cleaned off. Then to get the seatbox and wings off I guess, tbh not looking forward to the wiring crap in the rhs for the fusebox etc but got to be done. 3 Landrovers |

oh aye, only reason the doors are still on is the bolts look so corroded I've avoided it so far just spraying them with penetrating oil everytime I remember. 3 Landrovers

Thanks, It's going to run for quite a while to be honest, I work every other month out in Africa so there will be large gaps> That said I also spent my restoration budget/all my savings on the deposit for the Tdci on an impulse so this is going to have to be as and when I can put cash into it. On the upside (or at least i'm telling myself) I don't have to rush anything as there's now no real need to get it back on the road in a specific timeframe.
My wifes still pushing for a V8 but that's a a whole other can of worms and as much as I'd like to I cant help thinking i'd have been better off finding a tatty genuine V8 to refurb if that's to be the end result. 3 Landrovers |

I dont mind a long rebuild thread even if there is no time frame, which is the best way, i think that you are a very lucky man that your wife likes a V8, does that include the burble 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

Hmm definitely, She still loves the sound of a well tuned Boxer mind you, she used to drive a Scooby and misses both the power and the sound.
We went for a look at the new Mustang just last week, I don't thing the sales guy quite knew what to think, what spec are you thinking about he asks, she says with that odd quizzical look "The 5L v8 whats the point otherwise..." not my cup of tea mind you the Mustang. Took a scraper and med grit flapper to a few areas of the chassis today, not too bad at all to be honest i'm quite pleased how the old girls looking underneath all the mud. I figure next time home it'll be a whole ton of scraping grinding and sanding before chassis prep and painting, Had intended to disconnect the seatbox today but what a bloody faff that is, nothing for it but to de pin the fusebox I guess. Hopefully ill get the front wings of before I head back out to work, Is it normal to be looking forward to getting home so I can de rust and paint a chassis...! 3 Landrovers |

Nothing very exciting to be honest, Just a bunch of scraper, grinder/flapper, Fertan and Por15 sessions as I work my way round the chassis. The Dinitrol kit arrived But I might end up using it on the HT first and order another for the TD5 whn I get closer to finishing on the chassis as the 90HT looks to be in really good condition still but totally unprotected ie as it left the factory.
Now I hadn't intended to... but i'm fighting the urge to remover the BH as not being able to get right in under it is bugging me, having pulled it apart this much it now seems daft not to. Getting the 2 big bolts out of the tow bar plate was 'interesting' Has anyone used the ACF50 grease ? bought a tub when I ordered the ACF fluid but haven't seen much mention of it on here. Any how here's a Pic Click image to enlarge 3 Landrovers |

I was going to put a bulkhead on my 90... 19 months later and an obscene amount of money later.... Not finished
I always like to see the like minded foolish doing the same kind of thing. Kudos Watching with interest |
