United Kingdom 2002 Defender 90 Td5 HT Rutland Red
Odd find with Td5 bottom pulley.
Having some spare time today, and whilst the Defender was by the workshop waiting for a new starter, I thought I'd do a few jobs that I've been meaning to do for a while.
One of these was replacing the bottom pulley and oil seal.
The job was straight forward enough but when I took the bottom pulley off there was a strange mark on the pulley and crank.
On closer inspection it was the metal spring that sits inside the oil seal that had been trapped between the pulley and crank.
I can only think this has happened when the pulley was fitted but you would have to be very careless to dislodge the spring.
My thoughts then turned to where the bits are now and by using a magnet I manage to recover the trapped section of spring.
I've no idea where the rest is and it could of been like that for a while as the pulley looks original and the car has done 165k.
It's not a great surprise that the seal was leaking but hopefully all ok now.
