Well I had a great few days in the end.
Met some great people, saw some lovely places, learnt some things and generally had a good time.

A few of us went and explored some green lanes on the Friday. We started out 5 but the Toyota left after the first lane with some problems so I didn't get any pictures of that. Just left two 90s, my 110 and the D4

We got to the top of a rather rutted hill, this was just after having to use the waffles to get the D4 out of a rut it was stuck in.

My 110 admiring the view.

The start of Strata Florida. A bit later on the D4's wade sensors got rather panicked that we were over it's maximum wade depth!

And this is why road tyres are a silly thing to have on what is otherwise an incredibly capable vehicle. D4s are fantastic, it's just a shame that the tyres let them down.

A bit later on, we saw lots of pretty things! This was just below the dam that Hammond et al winch a Series 1 up.

VW Synchros are awesome! The Synchro bunch were pretty cool too, but I guess you have to be of a certain sort to go camping in a field in October. Unless you're TJ101 with a centrally heated campervan!

There were a load of good talks about stuff, this was improvised repairs and welding with batteries. I don't have photos of anything else but generally they were interesting, the people knew (or gave a good impression of) what they were talking about and it wasn't so formal you couldn't have a chat with them.

This is on the back of a 110 owned but a guy called Skins. There was another one on a 90. Pretty cool I thought! All custom cut out.

There were two of them that had them and they'd had them done together.
If I remember correctly they'd had the metal box made for them and temporarily fitted foam that they cut out by hand. Once they'd got their layout sorted and were happy they took it to a foam cutting place and had it all routed out properly. The box fits in between the roll cage mounts.

I couldn't tell you any more than that. It went in to my category of "neat but I don't need one" so I didn't ask too many questions I'm afraid. jst or TJ101 might have their details if you wanted to ask more.

We spent most of the weekend on the road, checking out the roadbook and overindulging in the local eateries - some excellent lanes were mapped in the book, by the way. Wales has to be my favourite part of the UK.

Nicely organised - as usual - just a shame for James (JST) and the team that the German photography guy didn't turn up.

Will definitely be along for the next one Thumbs Up
