Chestnut cladding
In the process of buying a house which has an attached outbuilding linked to the house with chestnut cladding. It is only 4 years old and so still in 1st class condition, however, it is taking on a greyish colour due to natural weathering. I do not want to spoil its appearance, nor have it shining in high gloss, however, would like to add a few coats of a quality preservative to ensure years of wear and tear (I do not like any of the water based ones although that could just be my natural bias towards oil based products). I would be very interested to know what has worked for you.

Chestnut shouldn't need any preservative to make it last. Let it weather to its natural grey

Try a light spray of teak oil or decking oil this will soak into the timber and replace lost oils rather than a surface coat which will weather and peel
