SU carburettor breathers

I was going to ask this in technical but now we have a v8 page I can ask here.
Does anyone know where the breathers on SU carburettors go? Mine just connect together and go into the air intake system. When I see pictures of them online they go somewhere behind the air filter though.

1989 Defender 90 V8 Petrol ST Alpine White

Looking at your picture in "Lets see your V8" your breathers look to be correct, they go from the rocker cover through a flame trap & to the carb on the N/S & the same on the O/S but it also splits off & goes to the air cleaner

not sure if you mean the fuel vent pipes though? as yours look to be joined & then go toward the air cleaner?

number 1 is wrong this the fuel feed to the float chamber from the tank

mine are the same as your signature picture at the top of this thread,
both pipes are routed across the engine to the N/S inner wing & clip on to the outside of the chassis from memory

they are fuel vent pipes in case the floats stick etc & for that reason you don't want them to near your exhaust!!
mine were actually melted to the down pipe when i bought it!

thanks, will have to sort mine out then.
Melted to it? That isn't what you want should they have fuel passing through them
