It is up to you. (There are about 20 threads flogging this one out with some 100% against and some 100% for)

The rules around it can be read in 2 ways

1> A-bars aren't allowed to be fitted after 2007

or (as I see it after reading it several times)

2> It is illegal to fit an A-bar manufactured after 2007

Look into it, then decide if you want to fit one...... and most importantly- make sure your insurance knows and are happy with it.

Ignorance of the law is no defence... just wait until you collide with someone. Soft A bars are the only way to go and we don't have any reason to fit metal ones. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

My understanding on winch bumper is that they are legal as long as there is a winch mounted on the winch bumper fitted to a modern vehicle.

Out of interest go to one of the multitude of insurance providers, punch in the details of your Defender get your quotes and see the number of potential insurers!!! Go back to vehicle details and add an A-Bar, now see how many potential insurers from the initial list will now refuse to insure - you'll be surprised - then again maybe not!!! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

Yes. Mounted direct onto bumper. However you need decent lights to put up with the water etc they will be subjected to.

I use Lightforce lights bumper mounted on all our vehicles. Like this

Emmmm, you can attach spotlights to it and as i found out, deflect reversing Volvos too. They also are hip height to an adult and head height to a child. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..
