Only thing you've got to watch with the foam like stuff is that it doesn't take on moisture.

I think Alu derived (style) soundproofing is the most effective compared to anything else, but adding extra after like a foam or board based stuff may help again.
I could see that stuff being a paint though, I don't know why.

I went for Dynamat because there was some talk of some of the cheaper stuff out there containing Lead amongst other things.
I can't remember whether it was noise killer or silent coat and probably some other cheaper eBay versions.

Maybe just myth, but that was what I heard.

You can get Dynamat in single sheets if you want too, so either use a small amount or buy bit by bit rather than £150 packs a pop.
It does make things feel more solid too, less general rod noise especially from the trans, after all between the front seats there is only a the metal plate between the power train and you. I did that too.
As well as seat box covers and the base of seat boxes inside.

You definately don't need complete coverage.

I put 6 silent coat tiles either side of the roof line centre, 2 in the 'cab' 4 in the hardtop area. It made a massive difference... 2002MY Defender 90 H/T
