Why is it that a Discovery TD5 turbo has an electronic wastegate actuator and a Defender does not? what is the purpose?
Just curious... |

I think its due to the defender being just generally a bit more rugged built than the disco and a bit of tube and a push rod is far less likely to go wrong than an electrical component.
Would love to find the official reason too though Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter |

IIRC the Disco and the Def have totally different ECUs from different manufacturers and on the Disco the wastegate is under ECU control, whilst on the Def it is not.
I think! |

Yes that is my understanding too. The question is why?

Presumably because a more sophisticated Ecu had to be fitted to the Disco so that it could interface correctly to the HVAC, SLABS, and BCU systems, none of which the Defender has.
The Defender has a very basic electrical system so that a relatively unsophisticated ECU was quite sufficient. |

I don't mind to be corrected, but I thought the ecu for a td5 disco and td5 Defender are the same. The ecu knows when it is put in a Defender or Disco. Roel
