Can anyone recommend a good bug/mosi repellent, I know there are a fair few outdoors folk on here as Mrs MBD is running the "Dale Trail 30" next weekend, just recently she is getting eaten alive during training, pretty sure the dales will not be any different for bugs Jumped ship to reliability - Mitsubishi L200

Ones that worked well, ie reliable, for our family

Africa - 100% Deet with 50% Deet roll on for topping up wrists and ankles

Overkill for UK and stinks and sticky on skin after prolonged use, however, very effective if you want to be 100% sure.

Better solution - For Scotland we use 'Xpel' Tropical formula Mosquito and Insect repellent wipes readily available from Superdrug etc

It is one of the citrus based solutions (of which I was sceptical until I discovered it works) easy to apply and top up and worked very well

Try Incognito, they do a full range of shower gel, shampoo, soap and spray.
I think I've tried almost everyone on the market including Avon skin so soft, without much luck!
I haven't been out and about that much recently, but on the occasions when I have managed to shoot in and area that's renowned for mosquitos the Incognito seems to have kept them at bay.

Many years ago, Vivian Stanshall (Google him if you don't know) came up with a couple of products for anyone visiting somewhere with big game.

They were called 'Repelephant' and 'Rhi-No'.

I use "Smidge" firstly on the hands then rub in. It wont melt plastic and leather as Deet based sprays do. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

We use Smidge at work also, I cover West Argyll and Lochaber so get to experience a fair few of the Censored . Smidge works ok for me, I have tried Skin So Soft in the past but found the Smidge is more effective. Good old DEET (Jungle Formula) also works well.

Was up at Loch Awe last week and they were pretty horrific, the stage where you have to physically scrape them off yourself before getting back into the car.

Shoo & Jungle formula will destroy your steering wheel and gearknob if left on for several hours. My mates D3 leather wheel had to be scrapped when it deformed overnight which makes one wonder what it does to our bodies? 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Don't put it on your steering wheel then? Laughing

Regarding any potential health effects - whether that bothers you or not is probably related to the level of midge attack currently underway Whistle

Just about everything is a poison if administered in sufficient quantities. Used appropriately it isn't a high risk, and sometimes a DEET-based solution is the only thing that will work.

However there are alternatives which also work in a lot of cases so no need to worry if concerned about nasty chemicals.
