Morning Guys and Girls
I'm after a side exit pipe for the 90, does anyone have any experience with different makes? I want it to have a bark but not to obnoxious. Cheers peeps Life is one big adventure, that's why we have the vehicle for the journey. |

I think the best thing to do is go to your local boy racer exhaust maker and get them to make one from scratch for your needs. Or at least make a new rear section for you.

it you want a better tone then removing the centre box and fitting the straight through pipes the best / easiest option

I have to ask why?
If it is used for really extreme, competition driving then the exhaust may get stuffed into a bank or squashed. A side exit exhaust will give you a face full of soot if you have to put a waffle under the rear wheel, will make the side of the car filthy and you won't be able to get replacement parts off the shelf. I used to have one on my old 90, and I wouldn't have one again... My blog - www.anacreinhampshire.blogspot.co.uk 110 TD5 BuildHERE - sold! 110 Tdci Build HERE - sold! Passat Alltrack - 4x4, auto, 45mpg, gloriously comfortable - but not a Defender! |

Hello Simon
I just want it to look nice, I don't go off road just annoy and embarrass the plebs that think a Defender is an old slow work horse. Life is one big adventure, that's why we have the vehicle for the journey. |

Having looked a few exhausts I believe these guys have the best engineered product on the market; http://www.griffinperformance.co.uk/exhausts.htm
They do a Puma 90 and 110 version, although I couldn't see it on their website. The quality of the steel and welding is second to none I have seen. Their side exit version is bomb proof, it mounts on the chassis leg in the rear of the Puma, if you slid your Defender into a tree and had to drive off it isn't going to hang up on this in fact it'll probably protect that part of the wing. |

I have very recently fitted the Twisted SS exhaust with side exit, cat back to my Puma 110, suffice to say I love it!! My reasons for the change are the same as yours - it looks nice and sounds nice - so no comments from you doubters, I admit it!! The pipe is straight through with a very minor swelling at the centre box and nothing at the rear. In my opinion the note is just about perfect, not booming all the time, but a lovely bark/growl under hard acceleration. I had an Allisport intercooler fitted at the same time and the Turbo gives a lovely chirrup now. No regrets whatsoever, and there's only a tiny bit of soot on the side, but if I climb the ladder to the roof rack I no longer get black trousers on the way down!!

Sorry, but I did that before and there was barely any difference, albeit with the back box still in place...
Of course there's no full on justification for stainless, but I intend to keep the car for a long time yet and it is well known to add a different quality to the exhaust note... More than that I will not bother arguing so lets leave it down to the choice of the individual? |

Ken,
The pipe was fitted by Gigglepin as I live 20 minutes away from them and cost £600 plus labour, as I had other work at the same time I can't say exactly. |
