How do you navigate the workshop manual?
I find it very hard to find my way around the pdf versions...

In the index I find "405-33: thingymabob - removal and installation" (which is made up, but let's just say it's exactly what I need to read.)

Great! - hrrrm, but no page number given... Rolling Eyes

OK, I'll do a string search for "405-33", which should be a unique identifier (akin to a page number) - I get many hits across the document, ok! let's look at them ... so they're all references to that section and not the section itself.

Like this: "before you do so and so, make sure you remove the thingymabob - see section 405-33"

But I'm searching for "405-33" !

I then think well it'll be one of these search hits - I've just gotta go through them all....

But no Shocked

When I eventually wade through the thousands of pages and find it I discover that the reference "405-33" is not included on the page for thingymabob removal.

Thud

I'm missing something basic?

How do you do it? Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

I was about to post this exact same topic. Glad it's not just me!

Searching page number vs topic...
Know it is extra trouble - but I made an Excel spreadsheet displaying the topic and then the page number - if you then specify the page number in the PDF programme - it should take you there immediately.

Is an on going process though - there are many topics that would not be of immediate interest.

Hope this helps.

I did something similar with the pdf version of microcat, until I discovered the online versions... That was a moment of great happiness.

Are the pdf versions of the WSM missing something though? Are they just the content that usually sits in a larger application that does the indexing/referencing job for users?

Pretty frustrating - if the intent was to discourage me working on my own machine, then it's not working, just slowing me down Whistle Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

It's because the PDF that some people make available for download is ripped from the JLR paid-for TOPIX site, where everything is indexed and the links work.

If you want it working correctly, pay JLR for it. Whistle  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top
