CV joint preload, how tight should a new one feel?

Gidday,

Got two new Bearmach CV joints for a TDCi and they are tighter than I would expect to angle/move about. If I hold the wheel/CV end of the shorter unit, the loading on the balls will actually hold up the halfshaft when it's parallel to the ground (!) - that being said, a slight wiggle will get it to drop (a nice example of static vs. dynamic friction).

I expected them to not be exhibit any play (obviously) but for them to be free to flop about like the ones seen on online videos.

They haven't been greased yet (grease came included), but I cant see grease getting them much better anyway (maybe once it's warmed up and spread around though?)

Is this normal for off-the-shelf units? (and the ones I see online have been freed up from lubricant and use? ...)

Without anyones advice I'm just going to install them, but I ask as I've got a bit of time, I'd hate to heat up and seize a joint on my first drive down the road if I can avoid it. Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

2004 Defender 90 200 Tdi SW Stornoway Grey

Any tightness of the CV's will be taken out within the first few miles.. My 1986 90 is currently on a full rebuild, with new chassis, Paint etc.. Very much a hybrid, TD5 Chassis, tub & bulkhead with a 200TDI and LT77 GB Painted in Stornoway Grey

2 years off the road, but getting close to completion now
