I apologise in advance for what I feel is a stupid question, but...

Is there any way the chain can scuff or scratch the alloy wheel? Or does the chain only cover as far as the rim?

The part of the chain either side of the wheel are rubberised, can in theory bash the rims though through sideways movement.
