LRDirect - Britpart 'OEM' vs. Britpart standard ?
Alright so what's the difference between Britpart 'RUC105200.C8' for £4 and Britpart 'OEM" RUC105200G.C8 for £12 ?

Both listed here:
https://www.lrdirect.com/RUC105200-Drive-F..._https=yes

Yes, LRDirect sent me 4 blue boxes when I ordered RUC105200G.C8 Evil or Very Mad Sad

Apparently that is what 'Brand: ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT' means...

I didn't expect genuine, but I certainly didn't expect Britpart.

Is there actually a product difference?

I would have gone Bearmach had I known! Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

Britpart OEM is open to much interpretation...

IME, when using OEM suspension arms, they fit OEM bushes into their own arms

However, when using something like a drive flange, OEM is OEM. They use the same blue box for packing Thumbs Up

So the flange is made in another factory, with better processes, better materials and better final inspections and tolerances and Britpart just have a finger in the distribution pie?

Even if it is better than the £4 version, they're so bad as a brand I just don't care... Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

A Britpart OEM drive flange is the same flange as you would get from a main dealer, but at 10% of the price Thumbs Up

I've chanced a few things before that were labelled as Britpart OEM and they have been fine, wheel bearings were Timken branded, a clutch was Valeo and a clutch slave cylinder was Lucas albeit all in blue boxes.

On the other-side I don't trust Britpart's own kit as far as you can throw it. The last slave cylinder I bought in desperation was cast so badly it wouldn't fit inside the bellhousing!

You should be fine with Britpart 'OEM'

Alright, I work with them.

I opened one up and FWIW it did seem/feel like a reasonable piece of engineering.

But just to drive the point home - here is a Britpart plib PCB I opened up today straight from the supplier:

Solder flux mixed with melted plastic and what looks like pubic hair.

I did PCB manufacturing in a past life and I know the flux can be messy, but there are solvents that can clean it. The kicker however, is the three broken solder joints (circled), so much so that the battery holder is completely loose. It makes me think the part is used.

It looks super similar to the genuine part I have here. Hrrrrrm Neutral Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

OEM means it was made by a supplier who supplied the factory at one time but does not mean it is made to the same standards as the original. It certainly does not mean genuine in a different box. If you expect that, you'll be disappointed.

If the one on the car is genuine - do a visual comparison. My experience is that the better flanges (closer to Genuine) have an HRCxxxx number stamped on the inside of the drive member.

I have used a number of Britpart OEM (late style) drive flanges and they look to be good quality. But remember lots of these parts are ordered in batches and the batch you have could be different to the batch I have.

Also the latest parts for the wolf/P38A rear diff in a defender have a solid drive member/axle shaft much like an older 90 or Disco. 1995 300tdi Defender 90 P/UP

There seems to be an assumption that genuine parts are all high quality ? If that was the case then we'd not have to spend so much time sourcing replacements or fixing the damn things !

Britpart OEM is normally as good as the genuine part, of course the genuine part may also be carp, especially if it also has a Lucas label somewhere on it. Genuine Land Rover Lucas parts have always suffered from being unreliable PoS manufactured to extremely low tolerances, they didn't get the "Lucas, prince of darkness" tag for nothing. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/

These flanges have the casting 'stamp', either way they've gotta be better than the flanged shaped iron oxide on the vehicle at the moment.

I guess the LR genuine cant be 10 times better can they??

(I'll try to remind myself of this logic on the side of the rd when the Britpart ones fail Rolling Eyes )

My Defender came with a genuine Land Rover bumper which was replaced due to corrosion. The genuine brake vacuum pump had to be replaced. The genuine clutch was replaced twice. The genuine headlight levelling unit was replaced. The genuine hazard warning light switch was replaced. The engine was replaced. Yep...you pays your money and takes your choice. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
