Are front and rear discs interchangeable ?

Hello all, I'm about to order some new discs and pads for my defender 90 and am just wondering are the front and rear discs the same / interchangeable ?
The reason I ask is I already have a set of vented and drilled/grooved front discs and was wondering if it would be of any benefit fitting a set to the back axle too ?
