Ferodo brake pad orientation - soft bit goes which way?
Gidday,

So I've got 4 Ferodo brake pads for the rear and I'm interested to know which way to install them.

I understand that the chamfer on the pad is meant to be on the 'intake' - i.e. the rear/bottom - but there are chamfers on both sides - the thick plottens more as on the back side where the piston pushes they have a soft section on one half only.

Rolling Eyes

I assume that soft section is the anti-squeal gunk?

Unsure if it it's indicative one way or the other but the old pads had these shims in with them that interestingly follow the pattern of the soft backing. (the old pads don't have this though).

So, the question is - which way are they meant to be installed? Shims? Neither is mentioned in the instructions.

The shims/pad things should be on the trailing edge, that way the pad is applied to the disk with the trailing edge first and is less likely to bind on the leading edge when released. Ensuring that the trailing edge contacts first will also reduce brake squeal. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/

Ah cool, thanks.

So the shims, they go in as standard, or does the piston push directly on the pad? Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...
