Todays job - Straight through exhaust - Td5
So since I've had the 110 Td5 I've had the Alive stage 2 map with de-cat and centre box removal. I was only running the small rear silencer in the system and it sounded pretty good. Not too noisy at all except when flooring it.

I've been running a straight through 3" bore on my 200tdi 110 for a few years now and it's certainly not loud and sounds pretty mean. So today I thought I would give it a go and remove the rear section from my td5 all together.

Now I'm not a pro welder by any means so please don't start commenting on my welds Laughing

I've welded in a piece of stainless pipe as that's what I happened to ahve left in my metal scrap pile. I've also give it a quick coat of paint on the welds to hold off the rust.

The result -

I've taken it around the block and it seems ok. It's certainly a bit louder that my 200tdi but not obscene by any standards like a boy racer. It gives a meaningful growl under heavy acceleration and it fairly tame when cruising. I'm sure it's not to everyone taste. I'll run it for a bit like this and if I change my mind then I can always weld the silencer back on lol

The turbine in the turbo creates all the back pressure the engine will ever need. You just want to get rid of the gas once it's out of the turbo for performance and efficiency Thumbs Up

Got a straight through on my 110 it sounds luuuush Thumbs Up

I did the decat and middle box delete on mine a couple of weekends back, it has made a massive improvement to the vehicle and I'm really pleased I did it. It does sound superb, but its pretty loud..... does the backbox delete not make it TOO loud?

I unbolted the rear section and took it for a drive to gauge how loud it would be before I committed to cutting and welding.

I have a welder. And a td5. I may have to remove my middle box! Also a '99 so no cats in the way either!

I've been thinking of removing my middle box as its so big every time I go off roading it grounds out Rolling Eyes

The rear box also looks a bit vulnerable but I've not clouted it yet. '99 TD5 Defender 90

You can buy off the shelf straight through centre boxes. It certainly sounds good with just the rear box only. The rear box takes it to the next level of growl.

It's been a few weeks and I've driven it a few hundred miles. I've come to the conclusion that it's a lot louder on the outside than I thought. Had a few friends follow me with their windows open and they commented that it sounded loud when booting it but awesome! Under mild acceleration and cursing it's fine. Under full throttle full boost it's a beast.

Sorry although I have a go pro I don't have a mount to attach to the outside of the car.

I have not had such good results with my 110 TD5.

I removed the CAT and fitted a straight through pipe, it did seem a bit better as in not actually any faster but the turbo spooled up quicker.

However when on the motorway there was a fairly loud resonance/drone at 65-70 mph which was tiring after a while, so l ended up refitting the CAT.

The rest of the exhaust is standard and 11 years old, so l wonder if my silencers are OK? As nobody else has complained of this issue after CAT removal.
