Hi Anyone had any experience with these camp beds? Oxtent one is twice the price of the Outwell one, is it worth it?

We have an Oztent bed. Very good quality and would have no hesitation in buying another

I've had a Coleman and have an Oztent, I know it's not the comparison you asked for but it may help. The Coleman was extremely squeaky whenever you moved at all, it was a bit flimsy but reasonably comfortable. The Oztent doesn't squeak, is well built and probably a bit more comfortable. It's heavier but that makes no different and packs away slightly bigger than the Coleman but not a great deal more. Worth the extra? To me, yes.

Hi there
I'm also on the lookout for some quality chairs, sick of replacing the cheaper ones every year or so. I appreciate that Oztent chairs are rated to 150kgs, but they appear to contain plastic joint parts. Anyone know if spares are available for the Ostend chairs? Also, have anyone had any bad experiences with Oztent chairs? Cheers Staftly |

Oztent chairs are comfortable and generally hard wearing but the plastic parts can break and no spares are available. Ironically the feet of the Ozchair we have are metal and identical in design to the plastic part that broke in ours, other than missing a hole which could be drilled in them. Those parts aren't available either though ! I have a suspicion that they were originally supposed to be all metal but cost saving saw the top joints replaced with plastic versions.
The 5 year warranty offered by Oztent (and advertised on the labels attached to them) is not honoured in the UK, if it breaks you have to ship the item to Australia for it to be evaluated, assuming you remembered to register it within 14 days of purchase. It's not certain if they'll accept one of the brackets breaking as a valid warranty item though. It's been hinted at that using an Oztent chair more than a few times a year will invalidate the warranty anyway. Having said that, I used my 3D printer to print a replacement part for ours that is stronger than the original and it's been fine since so if anyone breaks one, give me a shout ! I've been very happy with our chairs and they've served us well including daily use for 5 months in our Australian excursion. If you get one, make sure you either replace the two self tappers in the feet with pop rivets or put some thread lock on them - I suspect that those screws coming loose contributed to the plastic joint snapping later on. For reference this is the joint that snapped on ours... Click image to enlarge http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ Last edited by davew on 14th Jul 2016 10:53am. Edited 1 time in total |

I've got 3 Oztent chairs, one new, one about 6 years old and one about 5. The oldest is becoming a bit frayed round the edges but considering its age and amount of use, it's holding up admirably. Still got another couple of seasons left, I'd say, not bad for a folding camp chair. Never had issue with any plastic fittings breaking or cracking, or ever hearing of this with these chairs. Most comfortable and robust camping chair I've ever had. Got one as a giveaway with lro magazine and the other two from 4x4 Overlander

Hi Davew & Ste
Thanks for the feedback, just what I wanted. Davew, very interesting what you say about warranty. I agree with you about the plastic parts, seems a cost saving too far in my opinion. Pity really as I expect to pay for quality, but the item is only as durable as the least durable part. Maybe have to see them for myself now that I have doubts. Brendan (4x4overlander) is not far from me, maybe worth a trip over the hill. Ooohhh, that could be expensive! Thanks Staftly |
