I just bought and fitted one of these, very happy with it and it's a sturdy piece of kit for the money. 👍

Lots of us got Nakatenanga Stainless ones from Brendan (4x4 Overlander - sponsor on here) as a group buy.
http://www.4x4overlander.com/product/stain...post-2002/ Bolts to crossmember only. Really good piece of kit.. I had to modify my Safari Equipe Bumperettes slightly.... Click image to enlarge superb piece of kit, but slightly pricey... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Swingaway wheel carriers?
There are two main types, basically those which bolt onto the rear cross member and those which require the rear tub drilling. If you do not want to drill the rear bodywork then it is a single pivot wheel carrier. We at 4x4 Overlander offer probably the widest range of swingaway wheel carriers in the UK. In my mind the best swing away wheel carrier is that by Nakatanenga, made from stainless steel, single pivot available for pre and post 02 Defenders, also for pick ups and also for D3/D4 The Safarie Equip mild steel single pivot wheel carrier and the range of standard Safari Equip wheel carriers for Defenders, pre and post 02, with or without high lift jack mount and for pick ups. Available galvanised or just plain mild steel. We have many of them in stock. Brendan |

How did youmodify it ?it looks like you made the inner leg longer! .....would it not have been easier to fabricate a spacer? No welding involved! |

Bought the same one. Sturdy bit of kit but decided to use mild steel nuts on the hinge bolts and welded them together for security. Stu |

To be honest, I have a mantec, it looks good but i've had to tighten it up twice now in 2 weeks of having it... it rattles loose and has a nylon cylinder to control the movement, being nylon means you cant tighten it up enough. To tighten it you need to remove the spare wheel.................. It does hold the door where you left it, even in a strong wind...

It's the locking nut against the plastic nylon cylinder, I will take some photos tomorrow as I realised its come lose again today so I need to drop off the wheel and tighten it back up.

mine has 2 nuts/washers on the threaded rod that goes into the nylon, one of each either side of the bracket and tightened once the threaded rod/nylon travel distance is set.
Tried to get a picture but phone won't fit in! This is the one I have, instructions...... http://www.slideshare.net/JoaoCarreira2/da22321?next_slideshow=1 Any use? |
