Wheel nuts - 1-1/16 ??
After having been using a 27mm socket for years I wanted to do the 'right thing' with my new 90 and ordered a 1-1/16 impact socket.
But I think it's a bit loose on the wheel nuts - what gives???
(Standard LR alloy wheel nuts)

Before someone mentions it, the socket is a Gedore socket so pretty high quality. Haven't measured it but I don't expect it to be off.

Are the alloy nuts not 1-1/16? Or what are they??

Odd....
The 27mm socket is even bigger than the 1-1/16

It's fine when using hand tools but when using the impact gun I'd like a tighter fit Confused

27 mm to inches is 1.06299 and converting into a fraction does not quite work out as 1-1/16 this is an approximation and the figure assumed after rounding.

(1) Subtract 1, the number of whole inches.

1.06299 - 1 = .06299

(2) Multiply .06299 x 16 to get the number of 16th's inches remaining.

.06299 x 16 = 1.00784

1.00784 = the number of 16th's of an inch. This is the numerator of the fraction. Apply the rules for rounding

1.00784 rounds to 1 because .00784 is less than .5

Therefore, 1.06299in. =(approximately) 1 and 1/16ths inch

The nearest you could get to 27mm to an almost exact fraction of an inch if such was available would be a socket where the tolerance was worked in 100000 of an inch this would give you a size 1 and 6299.00000000001/100000ths inch(es) which is just .1 100000 of an inch short . For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Hmms... Thank you gilarion for the explanation. So I've bought a socket the exact same size as the 27mm socket. Balls!

But what size an I supposed to use though? 27mm seems a bit too big. It's fine on hand tools but my impact driver is making Censored of the nuts because of the play.

27mm is correct. Has someone removed the stainless caps off yours? makes them around 26mm.
