Wiring Spots (no snorkel)
Looking at the option of getting some spots on the roof rack, most wiring options are where you guys have gone down or inside the snorkel, I do not have a snorkel. looked about a bit on the forum and I am sure this topic has been covered before, can someone direct me please Thumbs Up

I have a snorkel fitted, but when I get a roof rack and spots thought I would go down this route of wiring them up as I would want to take the rack off when its not being used in the winter time:

TheBoy has some good threads on wiring up spots:

Simply raise your feet up off the pedals thus avoiding the water and let the landys anti stall carry you onwards.......... Whistle

oh hello Shocked

Don't really need a snorkel, want some lights though for night work. If i ever need to go into deep water I will call you as I will end up being one of those dick heads, I honestly dont see the need for one as the last time i was near water with you I think it was my right foot which had a problem not the depth of the water Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

With a roof rack and no snorkel you have various options. A watertight connector and go through the roof by the A pillar.

Alternative is use superseal connectors then take cabling along roof rack and then down the ladder and along the chassis.

Hope that makes sense

Without wanting to ask dummy questions, can I ask what needs to be done to auxiliary light wiring once it's inside the engine bay? Where have you guys wired it into. Is there a socket as there is for trailer wiring? Or is it a question of grafting on to current wiring?

I'd love to do this job myself, but i am a limited mechanical electrician! The limit of my skills was plugging in the trailer electrics and rewiring my old Sankey.

Thumbs Up

First thing is to work out the current to your lights. Easy calculation from Current I = Power/12 volts. That is power per lamp and they are normally switched in pairs. This figure then defines the cable and fuse rating with an appropriate safey factor.

Most lamps will be switched via a relay which can be located in drivers seat box.

If wired separately from headlights then the spotlights are not legal for road use in UK
