200 TDI Transfer box question
Slowly working my way through my Land Rover.
Replacing bearings and propshafts...bushes all the normal things Laughing

Whilst the props are off I checked the flanges where they bolt on for excessive play etc by hand rotating them.

The front output on the Transfer box felt a little odd..... Sad It feels a little notchy as you rotate it?
I cant feel no movement up down back or forth? Just when rotated if feels like its notches as turned?

All others, rear and diff ones turn with a touch of back lash but smoothly..

When driving I cant say I noticed any excessive noise etc?

What is the normal sufferings would you say of the transfer box and should I pull the front output bearing and shaft out to inspect?

If there anything someone could have done wrong to cause this? Wrong setting of bearing or torque of bolt?

I have yet to have the pleasure of dissasembly of a transfer box so was hoping for a bit of advice/pictures of what I will encounter before I get into pieces.

Thanks everyone. Thumbs Up

Nothing to worry about at all. I just put my transfer box back in after having 1.211 gears put in it and an overhaul and that's exactly how it should feel (I was told)

It's probably because you're turning the centre differential gears when you rotate the front flange but not when you turn the rear.

Interesting I will have another look. It feels a bit rough. I was a bit worried by how it felt. I will have to reassemble it and see how it drives. Might video it if I can work out how. Embarassed

...Not sure I was looking at the diagram last night but not really had to pull one apart yet...thankfully.

I was worried about the bearing and output shaft itself.

I will see what happens when I reassemble it and hopefully put some miles on it.

Its wearing lots of new things now so got to be better...I hope Rolling with laughter

When I finally get it together I will put some pictures up of it.
