Defendoor alternative
Are there any better alternatives of Defendoor fuel cap cover?
Mine has deformed on +40 temperatures:

Likewise I have never seen a Defendoor distort like that.

Now you said the temperature was +40C, now was that air temperature or what? If say air temperature and the full sun was on that side of the vehicle the Defendoor could have experienced a higher temperature, how high would be sheer speculation but could be an extra 10 degrees, however I would be doubtful if it reached an extra 30-40C

According to the Defendoor website the LDPE (low density polyethylene) has a workable temperature range of -40 to +80C. Am not sure if that is the same as dimensionally stable temperature range.

I would image that there has been a temperature gradient across the Defendoor which has released some of the stresses from the vacuum forming process.

My suggestions would be to ask your supplier for a replacement one or to place it in an oven on a flat plate with a weight on to flatten it and raise the temperature to say 70C allow time for it to reach equilibrium temperature and then slowly cool it. It may well recover its shape.

I bought one of these and it did the same in the tropical heat of Central Scotland to the point it started popping off the vehicle at the pumps. I reckon it would eventually have folded its self in half but i binned it before that happened. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

The main benefit I have it for it that it stops sticks getting jammed in there when green laning etc.
It'd brush off and by the side but if something got hooked in there it'd cause some damage, especially at the wrong angle.
If they were any more cost than they are and the fact they can vanish I wouldn't have one.
I had one fly off once never to be seen again, this one is tethered so has to do as it's told Rolling with laughter

Brendan, it was outside air temperature last summer. Intake air temperatures (read by Ultra Gauge) were exceeding 50'C. The plastic cover was deflecting slowly, it took two or three weeks to come to the shape as on the picture.

Carpet Laughing ?? Seriously,in hot sun metal bodywork can take your skin off,not surprised it can melt plastic.
I guess the soft(er) flexible plastic is gonna be more vulnerable than the rigid plastic LR use on the grilles.
