Nominal drop arm angle with respect to vehicle forward?
Gidday all,

What is the nominal steering drop arm angle with respect to the vehicle?

I'd expect close to 0deg (0 forward, 90 looking right, 180 aft...)

At the moment my steering wheel is straight and steering itself is straight, but the drop arm is on an angle, and unless I'm mistaken this results in asymmetrical forces across the range. (Torque the same, but since we're translating to linear ...)

Suspect Censored previous owner has - once again - stuffed up the basics... (moved the wheel on the splines and somehow maxed out the thread on one end of the drag arm) Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

It should be slightly off straight when the wheels are dead ahead.

Don't go looking for problems that aren't there, if it drives ok don't worry about it.

Thanks, off centre in which direction?

Since it's going to be pulled apart anyway, i may as well get it right.

It's the engineer in me - I get more buzz out of fixing it than driving it... (Horses for courses) Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

There are two drop arms one for L/H and one for R/H if the incorrect one was fitted the turn ratios would be out to the point you could not drive it. It has confused many people in the past why after fitting a drop arm that was on the shelf rather than using the old one after fitting a new box means the steering is out, one bloke swapped the box twice, all steering tie rods, the damper, power steering pump and wanted to swap the front axle as he had run out of ideas Rolling Eyes let's just say he bought a few rounds that Friday night once is error was pointed out to him. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Not sure which direction.

There's a slot in the back of the arm that is supposed to line up with a hole on the bottom of the steering box at the dead ahead position. At least there is on 4-bolt boxes.
