I know still a mud pattern tyre but I'd go Cooper Discoverer STT pro if you want something available in the same & similar size and still looks the part but significantly better road manners. Won't howl like your current Maxxis and will happily sit at higher speeds without excessive wear. Just make sure you are getting the harder of the two compounds but I'm pretty sure we only get offed the harder compound in this country anyway.
To widen your search if your struggling to find a 'floatation ' tyre like the 35x10, search for a 315/75r16 which will be fairly similar (ever so slightly wider) and you'll see much more availability in Europe. Only thing against the above (with my glass / Lara hat on), if your planning on green laning particularly in rutted areas.. it is surprisingly just how much more damage a tyre of that width makes compared to common size like a 285/75r16. Only last weekend I was demonstrating this to an owner though photographs of his truck. You also end up not only putting the sidewalls through unnecessary grief, but you'll end up running on sidewalls some of the time which is rubbish for traction. Although a good inch smaller in diameter... personally I'd run a 285/75r16, which if memory serves is the recommended maximum for laning in the UK. Anything larger and people start turning their noises up at you and we don't need to fuel the fire of the anti's. Also from personal experience, anything larger than a 285 you really start degradating the handling (primarily carcass flex), My two penneth..... 2003 Zambezi Silver TD5 110 XS SW overland prepped.... 2004 Santorini Black TD5 110 XS SW left hooker for sale! 2004 Alpine White TD5 110 left hooker (work in progress) |

Thanks for the advice! I agree about them looking to agressive and chewing up the lanes. I definitely don't want to cause problems for us and others. I will try some more standard size tyres and if they give satisfactory results I will stick to them. I will let you know how I get on. I have not done much laning yet, one organised day with the Series 2 Land Rover club and a few local lanes I know which are more like farm tracks so pretty easy going. I'm lookin forward to getting into green laning with some groups. ![]() |

![]() Don't know where in the east of England you are but there is a cracking bunch over at Northants4x4 with plenty of laning trips that people can tag along on no matter what your experience level. ![]() 2004 Santorini Black TD5 110 XS SW left hooker for sale! 2004 Alpine White TD5 110 left hooker (work in progress) |

That sounds good, I'm a fair distance from there but would be up for it once I get it sorted. I bought it with the mudzilla's fitted and a lift kit. But I'm slowly replacing various bits..hopefully put some pictures on here once its sorted. I just tried it up the road with some 205 16 tyres. Certainly better. I noticed when I get a massive bar under the rear ball there is some up and down movement, so will need one of those now... Also I measure the spring heights and it is raised a fair amount. I measure 320 Front & 340 Rear. Plus 1.5" Lift blocks. So I guess thats a bit extreme. It feels like it grabs the camber of the road once in a while ![]() Got to sort it as I'm begining to really dislike driving it now, which is annoying as I am slowly getting it how I want it with the mods. |

If you put it back to standard without the stupid suspension lift or massive wide tyres you will find it drives fine.
Funnily enough Land Rover knew what they were doing when they designed it. |

They also knew what they were doing on the Wolf defender with a 1.5" lift

Wolf HD springs were for carrying heavier weights, not looking cool in Waitrose car park.

I agree fully! It had this stuff fitted when I purchased it and I'm slowly working through what should not be there and what can stay. It has OME springs and dampers so seems a shame to replace them. But the Space blocks which look like something from a aftermarket company....I think will come off as soon as I get round to it! Its like a part finished project...there are many good bits...and just as many bad bits!! But you have confirmed what I thought. ![]() ...probably should stop looking at pictures of Icelandic superjeeps too....not enough snow/glaciers here ![]() |

![]() Got a husky for a rear winch and just rebuilding one for the front too so I am carrying a bit of extra weight. Plus external cage & challenge wings.. so dragging abit of additional steel! I just want it to be a super capable off road Land Rover...whether it be green lanes or extreme adventure driving. I want to be able to self recover and get out of trouble incase the situation arises that I'm on my own. A step or two above standard ![]() When I was choosing what I would do I had decided no lift it just happened this had it already. Thanks for the advice everyone, its appreciated ![]() |

I'd keep the ome stuff that's definetely better than oe stuff. Mods done well with quality parts can and do drive a lot better than a standard car. Sounds like it's a pretty specced up truck, work out what you want from it and add / remove as required.
