Exhaust manifold bolt-hole - thread repair

After years of regularly loosening itself and then being retightened, it seems as though the bolt in the upper position on the front branch of my 2.4 exhaust manifold has finally stripped the thread in the head.

Although it is not easy to gain access (the turbo, manifold, alternator, drive belt, and that goofy cast aluminium bracket that holds the alternator and (if fitted) a/c compressor has to come off, my plan when I get time is to drill out the hole and fit a threaded insert into the head.

Has anyone had to do this before? Can anyone confirm that there's enough material in the head to take an M10 helicoil?

I have had persistent problems with the front branch of the manifold coming loose and would be interested to know if anyone else has had similar problems.

I have a spare engine in store from a write-off and yesterday removed the manifold from that. It was interesting that the front upper bolt on that engine had a mass of thread-lock adhesive on it, whereas none of the the others did. Is there a known issue with this one coming loose?
