Some other bits that I would consider,
Ferry to Spain is pretty steep, I think with a decent cabin about £700 Fuel in Spain about 95p, Gibraltar 63p and Morocco 60p - we changed £300 into dirhams and spent about £150 over the two weeks. Accommodation was included in the tour price. Don't buy everything in the catalogue - your brand new winch is of no use if you've scrimped on tyres and have multiple punctures - BFG ATs (and Cooper Zeon on the D4) were faultless, General Grabber AT were not. Tyres are the only thing in contact with the ground, so buy the best. Pack light - you'll rarely need the majority of the stuff you'll take. I took 4 jerry cans and only needed one. It wa useful when topping up on cheap fuel in Gib though Spare keys are no use locked in the car when you've locked your main keys in the car - result is a smashed window. Could easily happen to anyone. Get your car serviced or checked over before you go, no point saying you though the clutch might go - laziness here will spoil your trip. Do your check every morning - amazing how wheel nuts can work loose, or roofracks start to wobble. We had a mid trip vehicle service (Moroccan style). Cost £30, done by blokes who fix Dakar stuff in Zagora - go with it, they'll disappear for hours on a moped with you suspension bushes, but they'll get the job done - and cheap! My mistakes - a tub as a washing machine on the roof is great. Biological washing powder when not rinsed properly gives you a horrendous rash I'll take Fairy non bio next time. I also added rear door extendoors things and stripped the threads - this meant rear doors denting the b-pillar Finally, don't be a dick. You are guests in their country, be polite and courteous and try not to ruin it for others. Cheers Ian |
