Dont engage it if the wheels are spinning or if you are turning.

The done thing is to anticipate when you will need it and engage it before you think ' Censored should have engaged the diff lock'. Dis engage just before you get back onto tarmac. 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

On one trip I have done 20,000 miles off tarmac. Following that advice how many transfer boxes etc would I have got through??

Have done one transfer box in. Went into some slippery stuff with CDL in. Come out of slippery stuff forgot that cdl was engaged a few hundred metres later had strange noises. Oooops had forgotten cdl was engaged and that was off tarmac!!!
New transfer box needed 3 days later

Engage cdl when you need it, disengage when you don't.

Looks like Brendans' Email is playing up again ...! (Brenda...?) Whistle

But I agree with the 'Engage when you need it, disengage when you don't' procedure ... Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html
