Seems a lot of us cant keep away from our families enough just by owning a Land Rover so we decide to go even further and become volunteers for different organisations
So this is a bit like ' Whats your job' but whats your charity, post links as well so others can see what your charity does and might want to join, Mine is the Royal National Lifeboat Instituion RNLI, 'Saving Lifes At Sea' They operate probably 95% of all lifeboats in the England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Southern Ireland. The crews are on call 24/7 So if their boss is nice they are on call when they are at work if not possible when they get home from work. 90%ish of the crews are Volunteers except for the All Weather lifeboat Mechanics and some Coxswains who are full time employed ( no megastar wages there thats for sure) and the Helmsmans on the Thames Lifeboats as well as the crew on the Humber Lifeboat. It is no longer just about Lifeboats now, The RNLI now has full Flood Rescue capability which is a different unit to the stations but manned by specially trained crew from different station, There is also an Internantional deployment with this. Then there is the Beachguards who patrol a lot of the UKs beaches now, This is part funded by local councils as we are effectively doing their job. The beach guards are employed due to the nature of the work. The boats are grouped into 2 groups All Weather Lifeboats of which there is 7 variants these can go out in anything mother nature can throw at them and since the advent of engined lifeboats if not even earlier there is no known refusale for a All Weather lifeboat to put to sea due to weather conditions! Over the next decade the RNLI wants to go down to 3-4 variants by modernising two variants and replacing two of the older ones with the modern ones. Then there is the Inshore Lifeboat. These are coastal / river boats of which there is 2 classes a small MIB called the D Class and the larger Rib called the Atlantic, currently only a couple of the older Atlantic 75s left as they are being replaced by D class or Atlantic 85s. Due to their nature they do have weather limits ( Thankfully!!) Me im crew on the Great Yarmouth & Gorleston boats. We have an all weather Trent class which im crew and one of the last Atlantic 75s which im trainee Helm as well as a smaller Arancia boat which is something special lol. To find out more google RNLI or have a look at their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/rnli/ And our stations Facebook page Great Yarmouth & Gorleston Lifeboat |

I was very active with The Spa Valley Railway in Tunbridge Wells when I was much younger (working member at 13!) and learned most of my engineering skills from helping to rebuild restore and run steam engines up until I had to leave for university. (Probably why I get on with Tdi's so much better than Td5s )
I'm not part of any charity as such but if I have a choice I try and donate to ether the above or Help for Heros. Funny you should mention RNLI I make lots of bits at work for there new lifeboats so I am kind of supporting them Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter |

Voluntary fire fighter. The only way to be able to drive the nice (otherwise closed) forest/mountain lanes here in South Tyrol.
And the vehicle of choice for most fire stations and mountain rescue teams over here is of course our trusty Landy ( V8 ) Click image to enlarge . _____ .|_____\___ [|_/-\__/-\_|} ...(O)....(O)........ MY14 2.2 Defender 90 SW |

Having been a supporter of one of the Lakeland Mountain Rescue teams when I was younger I now raise funds for The Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team, along with other volunteers, some of who are on this forum, I help to run the Kielder 4x4 Safari. The events run throughout the year and use the tracks in Kielder Forest that are not normally open to the public, they are not hardcore off road events but more like easy green lanes or green road runs. All proceeds from the event go to the Mountain Rescue team and we usually have a team vehicle out with us.
