*URGENT HELP NEEDED* no rear lights
Hi folks bit of a crappy day today, for the first time my old 300 110 let me down and broke down on me. Long story short my sisters getting married tomorrow and is using my 110 as the wedding car, however the 110 has different ideas about that! Drove two hours this evening to get to my sisters, got 90% of the way there and I lost all electrical power, in the end got the AA out and they got me going again, turned out the air box had rubbed through the little loom leading to the alternator, so with that fixed I carry on my way to get 2 mins from my destination to be told none of my rear lights are working, no brake/tail lights, no indicators and no fog. All the front lights work and the reverse still works. I'm lost and can only assume it has something to do with the wires that were joined back together at the air box, although I didn't realise the rear lighting went through the engine bay Confused
Weddings at 11 tomorrow morning and have somehow got to get it right or else she's walking.
Any ideas anyone? Can I rule out a separate fault before I look at the AA repair job?
Help is greatly appreciated as always!

Also forgot to add, no trailer lights either, so a trailer board is out of the question.

I'll have a look, just seems too much of a coincidence as the rear lights worked when I broke down, and didn't when I pulled away. Should also note that they are all led if that makes any difference

Yes, checked fuses. Its fused by sides which is what has confused me as if it were fuses the front lights wouldn't work either Confused
Thanks though Smile

Where's the wedding? Maybe find someone local with a 110 that could chauffeur? James

Very unusual about both sides of the rear, I'd be looking at the tow socket electrics.

Think we're going to have to manage, the wedding is literally across the road from the b&b im stopping at but its 5 mins away to pick my sister up, we're thinking that if they come to me first in another vehicle and change vehicles for the road crossing, no one will be any the wiser. So the fix will have to wait till morning before I head back 2 and a half hours up the motorway.
So I'm thinking its got to be the main live feed to the rear, as all the earths are fine and fuses ok. Just got to trace it back to a live header and maybe "borrow" a live from somewhere to get me home, where I've got the tools and time to sort it.

If your sister is keen to be in the 110 from home could it be possible for another vehicle to follow close behind for the short drive each way?
Either way wish her our best for the future.

Once the hangover has passed have a look around the air box/repair area.
Sounds to me like the rear loom has been damaged also. Cheers,
Kyle.

The rear loom has a number of plug in connectors on the firewall just below the clutch cylinder / brake master cylinder. They're on the angled piece of the firewall if that makes sense (I.e. to the left of the drivers foot well)?

I can't remember what circuits go through what connector but is there a chance one or more of them got pulled out during the repair? They're not the easiest to reach for a short arse like me but either on the floor or from the bonnet I can just about reach them at full stretch. There's plenty of space and they do have a latch.

I found the easiest was a long flat bladed screwdriver, it you happen to have one. I'll try and take a photo in a few minutes when I've finished my late lunch. Ed

Thanks for the help guys, very much appreciated. It's all sorted now, turns out that it was the multi plug on the bulkhead that had been knocked loose, presumably when the AA chap pulled the air hose off the air box he must have just knocked it enough to still be plugged in but not making contact. A couple of friends of the groom, one of which had worked with Land Rover on defenders and another who does a lot off work on defenders through a tree surgery firm had noticed that I had got no rear lights, got speaking to the best man who came to help me on Friday night when this all started, and they knew exactly what it was straight away and got it fixed in 5 seconds flat!
So sako takes the prize! Feel like a right plonker now it was something so simple, but to be fair if you looked at it, it all looked like it was connected correctly.
Thanks again chaps, I'll get some photos up when I can get at a computer.

Thumbs Up

Glad you got it sorted, sorry about lack of promised photos, by the time I remembered I had the headtorch on and was still crimping battery cables for the winch. Embarassed Ed
