You could always add a switched +ve to the circuit, it would mean switching the lights on and off manually but at least you would have control.
or
You could install a delay off timer relay like this (http://www.12voltplanet.co.uk/adjustable-d...v-10a.html) in to the lighting circuit. Doing this would allow you to select any time period you like from 1 sec to 6 hours.
The latter would allow your interior lighting to work almost as normal, just for longer...
