In your situation I would go for a new bulkhead and have it galvanised before painting.

They can do better than that, even for a genuine part

I have done some calling around and I can get a 2nd hand bulkhead stripped/dipped to remove rust/paint/filler for around £175+VAt and then Zinc coated for around £60 which could be an option 1999 Defender TD5 110

It's one of those jobs you want to save to when you need to repair/replace the chassis aswell. I had my rear crossmember done and the front outriggers. Now the bulkhead is developing holes. Wish it had happened together as I would have put a galv chassis and bulkhead on at the same time!!

Doing the maths, I think a new one will work out better value
2nd hand bulkhead £800 (internal condition unknown) Travel £30 Dip/strip £175+vat Travel £60 (trip there/trip back & trip there/trip back a week later to collect) Zinc coat £70 with travel and tunnel cost (assuming no repairs are needed after dip/strip) £1170 With the original bulkhead lasting 15 years then a new one will last just as long after painting and copious amounts of Dinitrol cavity wax injected before fitting and then more later on in life. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

are you doing the swap yourself ?if your paying a garrage i personally agree with 1978 and would get the new bulkhead stripped and galvanised..the extra £200 would be drowned in the labour costs of he swap and would improve your resale value..if you ever sell that is!anyway good luck!and post a few photos

The swap is being done by a local garage. I was considering doing it myself but cant have the car tied up for two weeks while I do the work. Doubt I could get it done in weekend 1999 Defender TD5 110
